In year 2000, The Kalachakra ceremony was held in Key Monastery and was initiated by H.H the Dalai Lama. Kalachakra, for Buddhist, is 1000 years or the 'Wheel of Time'. The Key Monastery was established in 1000 AD and in the year 2000, it became exactly 1000 year old.
Situated at an altitude of 13,500 feet and in a place that is known, as the 'Little Tibet' is Key Monastery. The monastery is one of the most frequented religious destinations for the Buddhists in the state along with the Tabo Monastery.
The Monastery has 300 monks and 80 of them are child monks.
